SECTION 2-1: POTIONS, BALMS, SCROLLS, & DUST

Overview

These items may only be used once, then they disappeaar.

Experience gained through these items is awarded to different skills, as described below.

Details

Potions

[Potion]

Potions are vials of magical liquid, a chemical mixture by an alchemist or a concoction of all manner of ingredients by a witch.

Usually their magical properties are released by drinking (that is, applying) them. There is only enough liquid for a single draught. Some potions need to be thrown to have their effect.

Experience ???

Balms

[Balm]

The method of preparation of balms is quite similar to that of potions except the end result is a small tub of paste or ointment.

This ointment is rubbed directly into the skin (that is, applied) and magical effects result.

Experience cannot be gained through use of a balm.

Scrolls

[Scroll]

Scrolls are spells (or prayers) scribed on parchment by a master wizard (or priest).

When read (that is, applied) the spell is cast (or prayer invoked) at no cost to your mana (or grace). The magical power unleashed tends to destroy the scroll.

Experience gained through use of a scroll goes to the skill you would have trained had you cast the magic on the scroll. That is, wizardry spells for a spell and divine prayers for a prayer.

Dust

[Dust]

It is not clear how magical dust is manufactured. Is it simply a potion or balm dehydrated? Or perhaps a scroll shredded and ground to fine powder? Or is it something entirely different, a material unto itself?

Wherever its origins lie the application of dust is clear: when sprinkled in the air (that is, applied) its magical qualities take effect.

Experience gained through use of dust goes to magic devices.
