SECTION 2-2: WANDS, HORNS, & RODS

Overview

These items may be used many times, but this multiple use may be limited, as described below.

These items are collectively known as magic devices and experience gained through their use is awarded to your skill also called magic devices.

Your level in this skill is particularly relevant to using horns and rods. This is because you cannot use such a device which has a substantially higher level than your magic devices skill level. Wands are unaffected by this calculation so you should train magic devices with wands for at least the first 20 or so levels.

Some mention should be made of how to use a magic device. Unlike most items, simply applying them is not enough. This will only equip the device as your ranged tool. To actually fire the device you must use the range system.

Details

Wands

[Wand]

A wand is basically a wizard in a stick. Wands have a finite number of charges (usually between 13 and 18) and each use decreases this number by one. Currently there is no way to recharge a spent wand.

Horns

[Horn]

Horns are similar to wands but have unlimited charges. Instead they have a rather slower fire-rate. That is, you have to wait five seconds between blasts.

Rods

[Rod]

Rods are much like horns, except the fire-rate is slightly faster (about four-and-a-half seconds between shots). Additionally, some rods will start to whine and not function if used too often.
