One of the hazards of the adventurer's lifestyle is the poison needle which is frequently found inside of the corpses you loot. Another thing to be wary of is that food and drink may be poisoned.
Whichever is your preferred method of adiministration, the effects of poison can be devastating.
As well as doing actual damage (in terms of decreasing your current hit points) poison may temporarily decrease one or more primary stats. In turn, this will affect your secondary stats and health indicator.
Fortunately, poison is only temporary and eventually, if you survive, your body will be cleansed and everything will return to normal.
Poison can be cured or it's symptoms alleviated by magic, and the damage done per 'hit' can be reduced by building up your protection to poison.
Disease is a common side-effect of rummaging through corpses.
The afflictions currently endemic to the world of Daimonin include warts, athlete's foot, uncontrollable diarrhea, and tapeworms.
Disease are also transmissable from player to player (or NPC or mob) so be wary of standing too close to the unwell!
Fortunately, none of these fall into the life-threatening category, but they are all very annoying. For example, it is difficult to concentrate when you are afflicted so praying becomes a bit of a stop-start affair.
Disease can be cured by magic or, with the exception of tapeworms, if you can bear to leave the condition untreated for long enough you will become immune.
There's no easy way to say this. As in the real world, everyone dies eventually. It is natural to have questions:
Happily, unlike the real world, death is not permanent. Also, there is no limit on how often or frequently you can die.
When you die you will be transported back to the church (or to bed if you own an apartment).
You will also be cured of any disease you are currently suffering and relieved of any poison in your bloodstream.
If your level is three or above you will also lose a chunk of experience from everyskill (although you cannot lose a level in this way), and possibly one point from a random primary stat.
A temporary gravestone marks the spot where you met your demise.
Also, a short message (your name and cause of death) is broadcast to all players for their amusement.
Now wipe away the tears and go and avenge your death!
