Introduction

The range system provides an interface to allow you to perform certain more complex actions.

Visually, the range system is represented by two icons, side-by-side:

The lefthand icon shows the currently selected action (for example, that you wish to throw an item or use a ranged tool). The righthand icon shows the chosen focus of that action (for example, the ammunition to be used with archery or the spell to be cast).

To cycle through the available actions enter the meta command"?M_RANGE" (TAB by default).

Archery

If you have the appropriate archery skill, a corresponding weapon, and ammunition to fit you can set up the range system to allow you to fire that weapon.

Cycle through the range system to the archery action, then apply the weapon ('A' by default) -- it will appear in the lefthand icon -- and ready the ammo or a quiver containing the ammo ('F' by default) -- it will appear in the righthand icon. To fire the weapon in a specified direction press CONTROL + direction (KP1 to KP9 by default).

Ranged tools

If you have an appropriate magic device (wand, rod, or horn) you can set up the range system to allow you to fire that device.

Cycle through the range system to the ranged tools action, then apply a magic device ('A' by default) -- it will appear in the righthand icon. To fire the device in a specified direction press CONTROL + direction (KP1 to KP9 by default).

Cast spells

You can set up the range system to allow you to cast spells/prayers.

Cycle through the range system to the cast spell action, then choose the spell/prayer from the spell list dialog -- it will appear in the righthand icon. To cast the spell/prayer in a specified direction press CONTROL + direction (KP1 to KP9 by default).

Throwing

If you have a throwable item (for example, a throwing dagger or a potion) you can set up the range system to allow you to throw that item.

Cycle through the range system to the throwing action, then ready the item or stack of items to be thrown ('F' by default) -- it will appear in the righthand icon. To throw the item in a specified direction press CONTROL + direction (KP1 to KP9 by default).

General skills

You can set up the range system to allow you to use certain skills.

Cycle through the range system to the use skill action, then choose the skill from the skill list dialog -- it will appear in the righthand icon. To use the skill in a specified direction press CONTROL + direction (KP1 to KP9 by default).
